Rabbit Rabbit
Monday, November 18th
Timucua white house
2000 S. Summerlin Ave., Orlando
7:30 pm concert, free admission, all ages welcome

Late night talk host Tom Snyder created some fantastic television with a minimum of production. When you looked at his Tomorrow show on NBC-TV, it didn’t infer a room of writers creating characters and catchphrases. It was long on the interview and beyond stinting on the skits. I don’t recall any. Snyder was a partner in some really great television interviews.

Here is a brief transcription from the vituperative, patronizing and entertaining interview between Snyder and the principles of the infamous (and at that juncture, brilliant) Public Image Ltd.:

Tom Synder: What is that. Is it a band, is it public relations firm, what does it do, what is it?

John Lydon (Public Image Ltd.): We ain’t no band. We’re a company. Simple. Nothing to do with rock and roll. Doo-dah.

Tom Synder: Doo-Dah. OK, it’s a company, not a band, simple. What kind of company is it? What does it do?

Keith Levene (Public Image Ltd.): It’s communications company.

Tom Synder: To facilitate communications, how?

John Lydon (Public Image Ltd.) : Videos… movies…soundtracks for films we hope soon, sometimes we perform live gigs, that depends on how we feel. Just about anything that’s available.

Kihlstedt, Bossi- Rabbit Rabbit, button, button

Kihlstedt, Bossi- the cassette played poptones

Rabbit Rabbit are Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi. They play music together in a number of bands. They are partners in life, including sharing duties as parents to a child. They play music, including song-forms that come with an extensive backstory. They are more than a band. They are a familial corporation that sometimes plays music, create videos and release the stories as songs via the internet. Doo-dah. From their
multi-functional site, they explain their bona fides
bilaterally, as well:

Collectively, this husband and wife team are founding members of the iconic bands Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tin Hat, 2 Foot Yard, Causing a Tiger, The Book of Knots, and Fred Frith’s Cosa Brava, and have played with Tom Waits, Mike Patton, Skeleton Key, Madeleine Peyroux, Tracy Chapman, John Vanderslice, St. Vincent, Carla Bozulich, Pretty Lights and The Tiger Lillies.

Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi represent multi-functional younger creative musicians that have grown up in a free-flowing musical environment facilitated by the vaunted expanse of communications messieurs Lydon and Levene of P.I.L. foresaw, seemingly equally influenced by art song as by industrial music, folk storytelling as by electronics, music videos as by the live stage.

Echoing the British superstition where one chants Rabbit Rabbit on the first of each month in hopes of good luck, our duo release a new song on the subscription Rabbit Rabbit Radio website (they’re a corporation, doo-dah) with attendant video, back stories and production notes.

Sometimes Rabbit Rabbit perform live gigs. Kihlstedt is a major voice as violinist, as heard when grabbing serious bandwidth in Tin Hat (Trio), Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and creative music legend Fred Frith’s modern art song unit Cosa Brava. Matthias Bossi is Rabbit Rabbit’s resident handyman on drums, a variety of Latin percussion instruments, piano, and bass harmonica. Along with their voices, see these attributes on display at the Timucua white house on Sunday the 18th.

Participate in the Timucua instant arts community created at each event by appearing willing - described by composer Anthony Braxton as the “friendly experiencer.” Timucua encourages a small plate dish and a bottle of wine for community distribution. We’ll see you there.
